Board Yet?

Sorry for the awful pun!  I am totally head over heels for the new boards I made for my classroom.  I scooped up two pieces of foam board at the dollar store for (you guessed it) a dollar, as well as a few yards of fabric on sale at JoAnn's.

First up I made a family news board to hang right outside my classroom door.  I like to hang up a copy of our latest newsletter, as well as a calendar that lets parents know about any important events that are coming up.

First grab some fabric and cut it so that there is an extra inch or two around the edges.  If you are crazy a perfectionist like me, iron it real quick to get rid of any creases or wrinkles.  Then just start stapling away!  I folded in the corners as if I were wrapping a present.

Flip it over and add any embellishments.  I love this fabric flower that I got at Michael's for 40 percent off.  Instead of just using the adhesive that was on the back of the flower, I added a few drops of fabric glue to make sure it wouldn't fall off.  Afterwards I hot glued on three heavy duty page protectors so that I can slip my papers in super easily.  I also whipped up a header using my Silhouette machine and hot glued that on.

Ta Da!  I love the little pop of color and cuteness right when you walk in the door.  Don't mind the empty plastic sleeve on the bottom... I haven't printed out my calendar yet!

Next up is this adorable board that was inspired by Peace Love and First Grade.

Isn't it so cute?!  I used the same stapler technique as above to wrap my foam board in totally adorable chevron fabric.

To make the scrunchy border, first cut strips of bulletin board paper into 2 or 3 inch pieces.  No need to measure or cut perfectly.  The best part about this board is that it is easy peasy!

Accordian fold your strips.  Again, no need to be perfect!  I did several strips at a time in order to save myself a step or two.

Now unfold your paper, and crumple it up into a ball.  Fun, right?

Unravel your balls and load up your stapler.  You will need tons of staples!  If you want to get really fancy, you can color your staples with a sharpie in order to match.  I did NOT feel that this step was necessary for my border, but it could be fun!

Now start stapling!  Staple your boarder, scootch the paper up a little bit so that your first staple is somewhat covered, and staple again.  Keep going, using this very scientific method: scootch, staple, scootch, staple.

Voila!  I am not even sure what I will be putting on this board yet, but I'm totally loving the texture that this border adds.  The possibilities are endless... Star of the Week?  Student work display?  Objectives board?  Who knows!  All I do know is that it will be super cute!
