Summer School

Summer school starts tomorrow, and I would be lying if I didn't say I was dreading it.  I have had a week and a half off to enjoy the sun, lounging and relaxing and I don't want to jump back into the grind!  Oh well... as soon as I hit the jackpot I won't be teaching in the summer anymore.

The scariest thing about summer school this year is that we will not even be laying eyes on the classroom until tomorrow.  It is not in my school, I have no idea what the classrooms look like until tomorrow morning, and I have about a million questions running through my head. Are the classrooms all packed up?  Will there be a whiteboard or chalkboard?  Will I have an easel?  A guided reading table?  I guess I will be finding all of this out tomorrow!

On the topic of summer school, I don't see a lot of stuff out there about it in the "blogosphere."  One great resource was made by Hadar at Miss Kindergarten.  She has an adorable July themed word wall to inspire writing.  Aren't the graphics adorable?

Does anyone know of any other summer school resources?  Help!

Thanks for sharing this! I love helping other people :) Here are some summer school ideas that I pinned on my Summer School pinterest board: http://pinterest.com/misskinder/summer-school-ideas/

Also, I've been using Jody's change-a-word circles and my kids LOVE them. Here's a link for those: http://fun-in-first.blogspot.com/2011/06/change-word-circles.html

We also made really cute fish necklaces on Friday. I made a copy of 4 fish on one page, had the students color and cut them out. Then I hole punched a hole to the top of each fish and give the kids a piece of yarn to string the fish on a necklace. Make sure that you put a piece of tape at the end of the yarn so it doesn't fray, or there will be lots of tears! haha!

let me know if you need anything else :) Good luck!!

Thanks girl, these are fabulous ideas! We have a curriculum to follow, but I definitely need to add to it and make it a little more engaging and fun. I especially love the change a word circles :)

Hadar,
You are AWESOME. Thanks for everything. I used the July Words today for a writing lesson and the kids were obsessed. We even played hangman using the words when we had a few extra minutes. I can't wait to hear more of your fabulous summer school ideas!

Summer schools really bring around the creativity among the students and they would further be able to draw more effective guides in this regard. online punctuation check
